BACHELOR OF ARTS - PROBABILITY AND STATISTICS OPTION
2004-2005
Students seeking a BA in Mathematics must have fourth semester proficiency in a second language.

Since the BA degree is not science-intensive, students seeking the BA in Mathematics need not complete science requirements outside those specificed in the University general education requirements.

Probability and Statistics are extremely useful in a number of areas of applied mathematics as well as a number of other disciplines. Students who choose this option can consider going into actuarial work or applied statistics on graduation or continuing on to graduate study in Statistics. There are also many other disciplines where this option provides a good background for further study. These include various areas in business, geography, and some of the biological and environmental sciences. By discussing with an advisor the choice of the minor, when combined with this option, the student can greatly enhance his/her career opportunities.
