Explaining Quantum Spin Systems
Series: Graduate Student Colloquium
Location: Math 501
Presenter: Samuel Herring
The study of quantum spin systems is an area of mathematical physics in which physical problems can be stated in mathematically precise language and often solved exactly. This presentation will cover a basic setup of quantum mechanics. This will be used to define a quantum spin system and justify the name of the subject. We will conclude with a major result in spin systems, the Lieb-Robinson bound, and discuss further questions in the field.
