Mathematical models inspired by Experimental Evolution

Modeling, Computation, Nonlinearity, Randomness and Waves Seminar

Mathematical models inspired by Experimental Evolution
Series: Modeling, Computation, Nonlinearity, Randomness and Waves Seminar
Location: MATH 402
Presenter: Adrien Gonzalez-Casanova, Department of Statistics, UC Berkley

We will discuss the basic models of mathematical population genetics and see how to apply them to the study of the Lenski experiment. Furthermore, we will use these models to provide a parsimonious explanation of the deceleration of the relative fitness in the experiment. The techniques discussed can be used to attack other questions, such as, is it advantageous to be efficient? How does the lag phase shapes the genealogy of bacteria? What effects does clonal interference have?
